The Abia State House of Assembly, the speaker, Hon Emmanuel Emeruwa, has taken the decision to suspend Hon Solomon Akpulonu, the representative of Obingwa East State Constituency. The immediate suspension stems from allegations of misconduct attributed to Akpulonu, specifically regarding his failure to adhere to the proper protocols when conducting press interviews within the House.

According to reports, Akpulonu has been suspended from participating in plenary sessions for a period of 14 sitting days. Speaker Emeruwa, addressing the House, expressed his dissatisfaction with the lawmaker’s actions, citing the chaos they had caused. He firmly stated that such behavior would not be tolerated in the future.

During the announcement, Speaker Emeruwa emphasized the need for civility among lawmakers, stating, “We are all civilized, and we were elected to be in the state house of Assembly and we are required to behave in a very absolutely civilized manner.” He further added that grievances and disagreements should be addressed democratically and in a civil manner.

The speaker highlighted Akpulonu’s consistent disregard for the proper conduct of House proceedings, causing nuisance within the hallowed chambers. Emeruwa emphasized that the power vested in him as the speaker should be respected by all members. The lawmaker’s persistent engagement with the press without clearance or approval was cited as evidence.

Emeruwa concluded his statement by informing the House that Hon. Solomon Akpulonu would be barred from attending subsequent sessions for the next 14 sitting days. This suspension takes effect immediately. #Abia
