The Abia State Government has pledged to compensate the families of slain police officers and innocent traders who were brutalized during recent violent incidents in Aba.
Governor Alex Otti condemned the gruesome attack on the police officers and expressed his sympathy for their families. He also criticized the reprisal attacks by some police officers against innocent citizens in the city.
The recent incident involved an attack on the convoy of Abia State Commissioner of Trade, Commerce, and Investment, Chimezie Ukaegbu, where unidentified gunmen killed policemen. In response, some police officers allegedly carried out reprisal attacks on innocent citizens, leading to further violence and unrest in the area.
Ferdinand Ekeoma, Governor Otti’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, described the attack on the police officers as cruel, unjust, and provocative in a statement. He called for the condemnation of such violence by all people of good conscience.
The Abia State Government has taken swift action to address the situation, withdrawing the officers involved in brutalizing innocent citizens from the affected areas. This move has helped restore peace and normalcy to the region.
The commitment to compensate the families of slain police officers and victims of police brutality shows the government’s effort to address the consequences of the violence and provide support to those affected by the tragic events.
As the situation is closely monitored, the state government’s actions aim to bring justice and alleviate the suffering of the affected families and traders in Aba. The focus remains on promoting peace, security, and the well-being of all citizens in the region.
