Amber Heard Pays $1 Million Settlement to Johnny Depp

Amber Heard has fulfilled her legal obligation by paying a $1 million (£795,000) settlement to her ex-husband, Johnny Depp. As part of the settlement, Depp had the authority to choose five charitable organizations to receive the funds. The settlement was reached following a high-profile defamation trial, in which Depp sued Amber Heard over an op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post. Initially, Depp sought $50 million in damages, while Heard issued a counterclaim for $100 million.

Ultimately, Depp emerged as the victor in the trial, with Heard being ordered to pay him $10 million in damages (originally $15 million). In turn, Depp was ordered to pay Heard $2 million in compensatory damages. However, the final settlement reduced the damages to $1 million, which Heard has now paid to Depp. Reports from TMZ suggest that Heard’s insurance covered the settlement, and Depp split the funds equally among the five charities he selected.

The chosen charities include the Make-A-Film Foundation, which assists critically ill children in creating short films, and The Painted Turtle, which offers camp experiences for children with serious medical conditions. Additionally, the Red Feather organization aims to provide safe housing for Native Americans, the Tetiaroa Society focuses on preserving the Pacific island’s ecosystem, and the Amazonia Fund Alliance protects indigenous communities in the Amazon rainforest.

TMZ also noted that Depp’s selection of The Painted Turtle and the Tetiaroa Society pays homage to Hollywood legends Paul Newman and Marlon Brando, respectively. Both actors played significant roles in organizations related to these charities. Following the conclusion of the defamation trial, both Heard and Depp have resumed their acting careers, with Heard appearing in the trailer for the upcoming film Aquaman 2 and Depp starring as King Louis XV in the recently released period drama Jeanne du Barry.
