Amidst Chaos and Confusion, Benue Assembly Elect Speaker

Aondonna Dajo has won the election for Speaker of the Benue House of Assembly despite the tumult and confusion that marred the proceedings.

Dajo received the most votes during the second round of voting, reportedly with the assistance of state governor Alia Hyacinth.

Following its inauguration, the 10th Benue Assembly started voting for a speaker while the governor was present. With 16 votes apiece, Becky Orpine (Gboko East) and Aondonna Dajo (Gboko West) tied for first place in the first round.

Cephas Diako, the lone representative of the Labour Party (LP), proposed that the governor be excused from the second round of voting.

During the second round of voting, tensions rose, leading to heated discussions and shouting bouts between lawmakers who backed both candidates. Despite the controversy, Dajo was named Speaker.
