A suspected cultist was detained in Osogbo, according to the Osun State Amotekun Corps, and a suspected burglar was detained in Ila-Orangun, in the Ila Local Government Area.
The State Commander of the Corps, Brig-Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi, announced this in a statement on Friday and added that the two suspects were taken into custody on Thursday.
“Osogbo native Sodiq Adelabu, 20, was detained in Osogbo for allegedly participating in a covert cult, engaging in cult-related behavior, and stealing.
“When questioned, the suspect claimed to belong to the Eiye Confraternity.
“In Ila-Orangun Town, burglary and theft were reported by the second suspect, Sunday Oluwasegun, 22, an Ila-Orangun resident.
Before he was later captured, he was said to have stolen some cash and a few household items.
Adewinmbi claimed that both suspects were detained as a result of complaints made against them and their actions by patriotic citizens of the state.
As a result, he urged state citizens to alert security personnel to any suspicious activity or suspected criminals who may be residing among them.
He urged them to join the effort to combat crime and criminality in the state while assuring them that their names would be kept a secret.
However, he said that the police had been given the suspects’ arrests for further investigation and prosecution.
