Anambra School Emerges Victorious in National Entrepreneurship Contest

The 2023 National Entrepreneurship Exhibition and Awards competition was won by the students of Mater Amabilis Secondary School, located in Umuoji, Anambra State, Nigeria.

This outstanding accomplishment was achieved after intense competition with 20 leading secondary schools from across the country. Organized annually by the Nigerian chapter of Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship, this competition aims to equip students with entrepreneurial and technical skills.

The event took place from June 25 to 28, 2023, at the Area Council Service Commission House in Garki, Abuja. It provided a platform for participating teams to showcase their innovative ideas and entrepreneurial prowess. The judges were thoroughly impressed by Mater Amabilis Anambra’s exceptional projects, leading them to secure the top position overall.

The students presented groundbreaking solutions, including a hydroelectric device that converts salt water into electricity and a versatile agro machine capable of performing various tasks such as weeding, irrigating, seeding, fumigating, and monitoring soil moisture and nutrient levels. These projects demonstrated the students’ remarkable creativity, innovation, and dedication to addressing pressing societal challenges.

As a result of their remarkable achievement, Mater Amabilis Secondary School, Anambra State, has earned the privilege of representing Nigeria at the upcoming SAGE World Cup in Italy later this year.

Also, the gold-winning students have been awarded full scholarships to study at Cyprus International University.

The team was led by Joshua Ekeh and Grace Amamudi, with Joshua Ekeh also being recognized with the SAGE Best Mentor of the Year award. Rev. Fr. Francis Onwuchulum, the Manager of Mater Amabilis Secondary School, Anambra, expressed his heartfelt congratulations to the students, considering it another significant milestone in the school’s history of success. He encouraged the award-winning students to remain focused on their studies and view this triumph as a steppingstone towards even greater accomplishments in life.


Rev. Fr. Onwuchulum also praised Most Rev. Valerian Maduka Okeke, the Archbishop of Onitsha and the Proprietor of the School, attributing all the recent achievements of the school to his visionary leadership and support.
