Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing goal keeper David Raya from Brentford.
The North Londoners are reportedly eager to recruit a new goal keeper to challenge current number one Aaron Ramsdale, according to The Athletic. The Bees are yet to receive a bid for Raya despite recent rumours linking the Spanish international with Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich.
David Raya’s agency, Futbol21Pro, have made comments on his future as they look to get him out of Brentford.
Jaume Munell, a spokesperson for Futbol21Pro, was quoted by Fabrizio Romano as saying: “If Brentford does not lower the price tag for David Raya this summer, we’ll be ready to leave as a free agent in one year.”
Aaron Ramsdale, Arsenal’s current number one can be replaced by David Raya if Mikel Arteta decides to sign the Brentford goalie.
After Arsenal’s unsuccessful attempts to sign Raya in 2021, Aaron Ramsdale was brought in as Arteta’s new number one in a contract worth £30m plus add-ons. According to Italian writer Fabrizio Romano, Raya will not be given the same duty because the two are expected to compete for the gloves.
“As for Aaron Ramsdale, my understanding is that the idea would be to create competition between Ramsdale and Raya – it’s not a case of replacing the England keeper. If it goes through it promises to be an intriguing battle for the number one spot in Mikel Arteta’s side.” he wrote on CaughtOffside.
Romano also twitted, “David Raya wishes to join Arsenal over Bayern. The deal currently hinges on the teams, but Arsenal is anticipated to make a proposal soon to quicken negotiations.
“Negotiations with Bayern are currently off after a loan offer in the morning—not what the player or Brentford wanted.”
Raya who spoke to The Times earlier this year about his future had said, “I will always feel close to Brentford. Being part of the promotion to the Premier League is something I will never forget.
“I know there are rumours about me leaving. There are some options for me to go but obviously Brentford are asking for a lot of money. That could make clubs not want to buy me, it could make them look somewhere else.”
