A new development has emerged in the tragic case of Miss Chinyere Awuda, whose body was found in an abandoned swimming pool on the grounds of the Cosmila Hotel in Awka. The Anambra State Police Command has cleared the hotel of any involvement in her death, citing an autopsy report that indicates drowning as the cause of her demise.
The hotel’s alleged connection to Awuda’s death had caused a public outcry, with accusations of her being beaten to death during an event held at the hotel. However, according to the police spokesman, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, the pathologist’s report did not reveal any signs of trauma on the victim’s body, dispelling the claims of foul play.
The police spokesperson further stated that the autopsy report confirms drowning as the cause of Miss Awuda’s death. According to the police’s version of events, she ran away when confronted, and despite extensive efforts to find her that night, she fell into the abandoned swimming pool and drowned.
To ensure a thorough investigation and legal perspective on the matter, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, has directed that the case file be forwarded to the Attorney General for vetting and legal advice.
The incident, which occurred on July 17, 2023, raised questions about the safety and security measures at the hotel and sparked a police investigation. The celebrant of the event, who was allegedly involved in the case, was arrested for questioning during the investigation.
As the case progresses and legal advice is sought, the public awaits further updates on the matter to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding Miss Awuda’s tragic death.
