An agreement has been reached for the transfer of Chelsea star Cesar Azpilicueta to Atletico Madrid.
The Spanish international, who was linked with Barcelona last summer but opted to remain at Chelsea, appears to be set on returning to Spain this summer.
According to reporter Fabrizio Romano, if a deal is done and the 33-year-old gives a nod, then a free transfer will be completed.
The defender was thought to be linked to Italian side Inter Milan, but Atletico Madrid are looking to bring in an extra defender.
The contract will run for two years.
Azpilicueta made 508 appearances for Chelsea, winning nine trophies, scoring 17 times, and assisting 56 goals throughout his time with the club.
The solid right-back will be an important addition to the Los Rojiblancos on a free transfer given his leadership quality and defensive experience.
