Bayern Munich and Tottenham have agreed in principle to a deal worth more than €100 million (£86.4 million) for England captain Harry Kane.
Kane, who is 30 years old, has one year left on his deal with the Spurs. He will now decide if he wants to stay or leave.
The BBC said on Thursday that the two teams had agreed to sign the forward. With 280 goals in 435 games, he is Tottenham’s all-time top scorer.
Kane was thought to be going to Manchester United earlier this summer before Bayern Munich made him their top priority.
The striker’s future in London wasn’t clear for a few years, and Bayern made a few offers that were turned down earlier this summer.
On Monday, Spurs turned down an offer, and the Bundesliga winners said at the time that if they didn’t get the player, they would have to move on to other targets.
Daniel Levy, the head of Tottenham, has turned down many offers for Kane over the years. In 2021, for example, Premier League champions Manchester City tried to sign the striker.
It was also not clear if Levy would have been ready to sell Kane to another Premier League team. Earlier this year, he said he wouldn’t do business with either of the Manchester clubs.
Kane came up through the Spurs’ youth program. He played for the team during the preseason while talks with Bayern were going on. His last game was on Sunday against Shakhtar Donetsk.
Ange Postecoglou, the new manager of Tottenham, promised to tell Harry Kane about his “vision” for the team when he was hired this summer. He said he wanted Kane to stay in north London.
Kane has won the Premier League Golden Boot three times since he joined the club in 2012. He won it in 2015-16, 2016-17, and 2020-21.
Kane has scored 213 goals in 320 Premier League games. He only needs 48 more goals to beat Alan Shearer’s mark.
