The public presentation and launch of two biographies about President Muhammadu Buhari’s life, experiences, and leadership took place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Friday, amidst an outpouring of financial support. The books, namely “State of Repair: How Muhammadu Buhari Tried to Change Nigeria for Good” by Antony Goldman and “The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari” by Senator Abu Ibrahim, were reviewed by Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the former Governor of Ekiti State, and Professor Abubakar Sadeeque Abba.
Alhaji Abdulsamad Rabiu, the chairman of the BUA Group, made the largest donation of N200 million during the event, and Aliko Dangote, the chairman of the Dangote Group, contributed N100 million. Muhammed Idimi also purchased copies of the books for N100 million. President-elect Bola Tinubu and Vice President-elect Kashim Shettima obtained copies for a combined total of N40 million. Notable attendees included the President of the Senate, Dr. Ahmad Lawan; Senator Abdullahi Adamu, Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC); Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State; Alhaji Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, a co-launcher; and other distinguished guests.
As the chairman of the occasion, the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Akufo-Addo, spoke before the unveiling of the books, expressing his belief that history would remember President Buhari favorably. President Akufo-Addo commended President Buhari’s accomplishments, particularly his leadership in Nigeria and other regional and international organizations, as well as his efforts in combating the Boko Haram insurgency.
President Akufo-Addo emphasized the significance of the biographies, which provide an in-depth account of President Buhari’s journey from his early days as a democratically elected president to his present tenure, showcasing the successes and challenges he has encountered. The President praised President Buhari’s contributions to diversifying Nigerian agriculture, stimulating economic growth, and his commitment to defeating Boko Haram to restore peace and security in Nigeria. He also acknowledged President Buhari’s leadership roles in various capacities, such as Chairperson of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS, Chairperson of the Gulf of Guinea Commission, and his coordination of the fight against COVID-19 within ECOWAS.
Overall, the event celebrated President Buhari’s remarkable story and recognized his significant achievements in Nigeria and the broader African and international contexts.
