Breaking: Military Seize Power in Gabon

Senior military officers have claimed power in Gabon. The group of military officers claimed that last week’s rigged presidential election, which gave President Ali Bongo a third term, was the driving force behind their actions.

According to a report by Aljazeera, the officers, appearing on Gabon24 in the early hours of Wednesday morning, said they had cancelled the elections, dissolved all state institutions, and closed the country’s borders.

“In the name of the Gabonese people … we have decided to defend the peace by putting an end to the current regime,” the officers said.
