Putin went to the city of Vladivostok in Russia’s far east on Monday to attend the Eastern Economic Forum.
The official news service of North Korea, KCNA, also said that the two leaders would meet soon.
Earlier on Monday, unnamed government sources told South Korean media that Kim seemed to have left on a private train headed for Russia and a meeting with Putin.
