On July 26, 2023, a tragic bus crash in northern Senegal claimed the lives of 24 people, including four children. The bus had been coming from a town in the north of the country and was reportedly “overcrowded” with 76 people on board; 16 more than the permitted number.
The fact that the bus was overcrowded highlights the need for stricter enforcement of safety regulations to prevent such tragedies from happening again.
The government has launched an investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the crash and to hold those responsible accountable. In the meantime, the families of the victims are mourning their loss and seeking answers.
It is crucial that all necessary measures are taken to ensure that such incidents do not happen again.
