After a scare in the preseason, Chelsea star Christopher Nkunku is said to have escaped a protracted injury layoff.
The 25-year-old was replaced during this week’s game between the Blues and Borussia Dortmund, but it was not yet known if he would be added to the long-term injury list.
He has averted this possibility, although it has been suggested that he will likely miss their Premier League season opener against Liverpool.
According to The Evening Standard, Nkunku’s knee injury will keep him out of action for “weeks rather than months.”
The news “has been met with a sense of relief but remains a blow,” according to the article, as he will miss their Premier League opener.
As Armando Broja recovers from a long-term injury and misses Chelsea’s preseason tour of America, Chelsea already lacks options in attack.
Romelu Lukaku has also been barred from first-team practises as he pursues a transfer to Juventus.
Given the chance during preseason, Nicolas Jackson performed admirably and will undoubtedly get the start now that Nkunku is hurt.
As Nkunku is injured, the couple’s romance, which was developing during Chelsea’s preseason trip, has been called off.
Dusan Vlahovic has received significant attention from the Blues this summer, and they may take action to sign the 23-year-old to add further competition in attack.
