Clement Lenglet Joins Aston Villa on Loan

Clement Lenglet has joined Aston Villa on a temporary loan deal from Barcelona.

The France international, who went on loan to Tottenham Hotspur last season, was not in Xavi’s plans for Barcelona and was searching for opportunities elsewhere. Rennes was rumoured to be interested in Lenglet, but Aston Villa has won the battle to sign him.

Following Tyrone Mings’ ACL injury, the Birmingham-based Premier League team was predicted to enter the centre-back market. Lenglet’s salary will be paid in full by Aston Villa, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano. The French international is still under contract with Barcelona until 2026.

Lenglet will reconnect with Boubacar Kamara and Moussa Diaby, two other France internationals, at Villa.

On Sunday, Unai Emery’s team will travel to Liverpool to take on the Reds in the fourth matchweek of the Premier League after starting the season off with two wins and a 5-1 loss to Newcastle on Matchday 1.
