PSG announced at the end of the previous month that they intended to activate Dembele’s €50m release clause. Barcelona was helpless to stop it, despite the fact that their discussions with the Frenchman’s agency had delayed the transaction in recent days.
Barcelona and Dembele/his agent were reportedly paid equally, despite the former believing they were entitled to more than €25m. Whatever the case, these issues have been settled, and the transfer has been completed.
Franck Kessie, who joined Al Ahli earlier this week, and Dembele were sold by Barcelona, and the proceeds will now be used to buy a new right-back. Joao Cancelo of Manchester City is their main target, but World Cup winner Juan Foyth of Villarreal is also on the list.
