Diana Becomes First Player in WNBA History to Score 10,000 Career Points
On Thursday, August 3, 2023, Diana Taurasi, a guard for the Phoenix Mercury, made history by becoming the first player in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) to score 10,000 career points. Taurasi reached the milestone with a three-point shot in the third quarter during Mercury’s 91-71 home win against Atlanta Dream.
Taurasi finished with 42 points and also became the oldest player in WNBA history to produce a 40-point game. She has been a dominant force in the league since being drafted by the Mercury as the first overall pick in 2004. Throughout her career, Taurasi has won three WNBA championships, two WNBA Finals MVP awards, and one regular season MVP award.
