Diphtheria Outbreak in Abuja: 4-Year-Old Boy Dead, 8 Cases Reported

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has confirmed the outbreak of the deadly diphtheria in the federal territory, Abuja. The disease has already claimed the life of a four-year-old boy out of eight reported cases.

The Director of the FCT Public Health Department, Sadiq Abdulrahman, announced this on Monday at a press briefing. He stated that information available to the department confirmed that the disease was imported from neighboring Niger State.

Two weeks ago, the department was alerted of a possible outbreak of the disease in Dei-Dei, with eight suspected cases reported. The FCTA is taking necessary measures to contain the spread of the disease and prevent further loss of life.

Diphtheria is a bacterial infection that can cause severe respiratory illness and can be fatal if left untreated. The FCTA urges residents to take necessary precautions and report any suspected cases to the nearest health facility.
