England Qualify for The Semi-Finals of The Women’s World Cup

The England female national team has qualified for the semis of the Women’s World Cup. Many questioned how the Lionesses would perform in Sydney after their mentally and physically taxing last-16 victory over Nigeria, but they gave a much better performance.

Nevertheless, England fell behind in the 44th minute when Leicy Santos’ incredible effort defeated Mary Earps for just the second time in the competition.

However, Catalina Perez, the Colombian goalkeeper, made a terrible mistake that allowed Lauren Hemp to score the equaliser with the last kick of the half.

Another individual mistake at the defence allowed Russo (63) to get through and score the game-winning goal for England. England held onto their lead as Colombia pushed for their own equaliser in the final half hour.

The only team to defeat the Lionesses under Sarina Wiegman, Australia, will face England in the semifinals on Wednesday.
