The Europa League group stage draw is out, with the Hammers being the first to be picked out of the pot after winning the Europa League last season.
Looking to retain the title, David Moyes team will take on Olympiacos, Freiburg, and Backa Topola in Group A.
However, they have a difficult task ahead of them as the competition features several strong opponents, including fellow Premier League side Liverpool.
In Group E, Jurgen Klopp’s team will face Belgian team Union SG, French side Toulouse, and LASK Linz in Austria.
Another Premier League side, Brighton, is in Group B with a huge task ahead of them. They will face Ajax, Marseile, and AEK Athens in what can be regarded as the Europa League Group of Death.
Xabi Alonso, former Liverpool player and current Bayer Leverkusen coach, may likely face Liverpool in the latter stage of the competition if he manages to advance his team from Group H, where they will face Qarabag, Molde, and Hacken.
