The disappearance of a woman who called 911 to report a toddler walking alone on the side of an interstate in Alabama has left authorities and her family searching for answers.
Carlethia “Carlee” Nichole Russell, 25, called 911 around 9:34 p.m. local time on Thursday to report seeing a toddler walking on the side of I-459 South near Birmingham, Alabama. After calling 911, she stopped to check on the child and called a family member who lost contact with her, though the line remained open.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found Russell’s vehicle and some of her belongings, including her phone, but no sign of her or the child. Police have not received any reports or calls for a missing child.
A reward of up to $25,000 has been offered for information about the case. Russell’s family and friends have been pleading for help in finding her and have set up a Facebook page to share information and updates.
The circumstances surrounding Russell’s disappearance remain unclear and authorities are continuing their investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office at (205) 325-1450.
