Flying Eagles’ Victory Leaves Argentina Coach Disappointed

This historic victory marks the first time the Flying Eagles have defeated a South American team since their U-20 World Cup debut in 1983.

Despite Argentina entering the game with three wins in the group stage, the Flying Eagles managed to qualify for the knockout stage as one of the third-best placed teams.

Reflecting on his team’s defeat, former Argentina and Barcelona defender Mascherano praised the Nigerian team. He was quoted on the Argentine national team’s Twitter handle, saying, “We played the game we had to play, but it couldn’t happen.

Football is like that; sometimes it gives you and sometimes it takes away. Today, we have to congratulate Nigeria.”

Mascherano acknowledged that his team made mistakes that resulted in goals, but he emphasized that the players gave their all and there was nothing to blame them for. He added, “Unfortunately, the two mistakes we had ended in a goal.”

In the quarter-finals, the Flying Eagles will face South Korea on Sunday.
