A truck driver, Ajadi Rafiu, operating in the maritime industry, was viciously attacked on Thursday by individuals affiliated with the Lagos State Parks and Garages Management Committee, led by Musiliu Akinsanya, also known as MC Oluomo.
According to DAILY TREND, the incident took place on the Mile 2 Bridge in Lagos. Meanwhile, reports indicate that the assailants forcibly demanded a payment of N1,000 from the truck driver, and when he refused, they resorted to using a large stone to strike his skull, resulting in severe injuries.
The truck driven by Ajadi bore the license plate number T7295 LA.
In confirmation of the incident, Mr. Yaqub Kolawole Azeez, the Public Relations Officer of the National Association of Maritime Transport Operators (NAMPTOP), stated that the affected driver is presently in critical condition and receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Lagos.
Azeez further denounced the unlawful practice of MC Oluomo’s group, who regularly extort N1,000 from truck drivers.
He assured that the association’s leadership is actively pursuing the matter with the government to secure justice for its members, who often fall victim to harassment and extortion by hoodlums in Lagos.
The maritime trucking business, as Azeez explained, has become increasingly unprofitable due to incessant harassment and extortion by local thugs, as well as unscrupulous security agencies disrupting truckers along various highways.
He stated, “The Lagos Parks and Garages Management Authority brutalized one of our drivers and caused him head injuries. We possess evidence in the form of videos and receipts that prove their involvement in this incident.”
“Normally, we are not meant to pay any money to them because we are truck drivers, we are under NAMPTOM.
”The driver is currently recuperating at an undisclosed hospital.
“The truck was on its way to Ijora, on getting to Mile 2 Bridge, the hoodlums stopped the truck and requested for tickets, after dragging the issue, they used a big stone to break his head” he alleged.
