In a show of solidarity with the people of Niger, the National Committee of the Rally for Development (CNRD) in Guinea has announced that it will not be applying the sanctions advocated by ECOWAS against Niger.
This comes after the people of Guinea have been closely following the socio-political situation in Niger, which led to the National Council for the Safeguarding of the Fatherland (CNSP) assuming responsibility.
The Guinean authorities have praised the bravery and patriotism of the people of Niger, as well as the maturity and republican spirit of their Defence and Security Forces. The CNRD is convinced that the new authorities in Niger will do everything in their power to ensure stability and harmony in both Niger and the Sub-Region.
The CNRD has urged ECOWAS to reconsider its stance on military intervention, stating that it would only lead to a human disaster with consequences that could extend beyond Niger’s borders. Instead, Guinea is calling for solidarity with the people of Niger and for the new CNSP authorities to focus on preserving unity and national cohesion.
This move by Guinea highlights their pan-Africanist vision and their commitment to respecting the sovereignty of their fellow African nations. The CNRD has also emphasized that a military intervention against Niger would lead to the dislocation of ECOWAS.
