Following a gunman’s attack on the ex-governor’s convoy, a police officer working for Rochas Okorocha, a former governor of Imo State, was slain.
The ex-governor’s convoy reportedly came under attack in the Ihube community on the Okigwe-Enugu Motorway.
Terrorists who had been murdering and abducting travellers for ransom had besieged the motorway’s Ihube axis.
At the birthday party for Samuel Anyanwu, the PDP candidate for governor of Imo State, on November 11, Okorocha revealed the attack on his convoy that occurred on Sunday in Amaimo in the Ikeduru Local Government Area.
The former governor called the police officer’s death “unfortunate,” noting that the victim was one of the officers dispatched from the state government building to accompany Emeka Ihedioha, the immediate past governor of Imo State, to the funeral service for his mother.
“I am angry; I am very angry,” Okorocha declared. I’m upset because, despite spending two days in Enugu unharmed, the conveyance the governor of Enugu State gave me to travel to Mbaise to attend Ihedioha’s mother’s funeral was attacked, resulting in the death of one police officer.
“I’m upset about what’s occurring in Imo State. Many of the candidates for governor of Imo State lack the necessary skills, but I have seen one individual for whom the job is right. When the moment is right, I will speak.
Gunshots reportedly destroyed the cars in the convoy, including a sport utility vehicle, a bus, and a Hilux, according to one of the ex-governor’s aides who spoke to our correspondent in confidence.
He claimed that although the terrorists grabbed two more security personnel, they were immediately freed.
