On Saturday afternoon, armed men attacked the community of Akpuna in the Benue State’s Ukum Local Government Area (LGA). As a result, 25 people lost their lives.
According to reports from residents of the area, the intruders went to the community and fired many times.
Many of the citizens made desperate attempts to flee, but some of them were unlucky enough to come under gunfire.
DSP Sewuese Anene, the state Police Public Relations Officer, was the one who responded to our inquiry. He stated that eight people had been killed at the scene of the attack, and a large number of other people who had suffered severe injuries were transported to the hospital.
She stated that “Upon receipt of this information, police teams, in collaboration with other security agencies, rushed to the area and engaged these bandits, who were eventually repelled.” She added that “Upon receiving this information, police teams, in collaboration with other security agencies, rushed to the area and engaged these bandits.” A total of eight bodies were found at the scene, and a great number of injured people were transported to local hospitals for medical attention. In the area, operations are still going on.
In the meantime, Emmanuel Udende, the senator who represents Benue North-East, has spoken out against the attack.
The senator issued a call to the relevant security agencies, demanding that they investigate and bring charges against those responsible for the killings.
He revealed that there was no justification for the deaths of 25 people.
