BREAKING: In Plateau Villages, Gunmen Kill 29 people.

In Plateau State, gunmen raided two villages and killed about 20 people.

It was learned that the killings took place on Monday night, at about 9 p.m. Kubwat and Fungzai, two villages in Mangu Local Government Area, were impacted.

On Tuesday, Amos Katul, a Fungzai village member who saw the attacks, verified their existence to Parallel Facts in Jos.

Katul claimed that the shooters massacred about 15 people in the Fungzai hamlet alone and that 29 corpses had been found.

“Last night, the gunmen arrived in large numbers and began firing,” Katul recalled. The terrified villagers began to flee but had no idea they were ambushed and were shot at. I am at Fungzai as we speak. Last night, the terrorists killed 15 people in this area (Fungzai).

They also attacked a nearby village of Kubwat. We’ve found 29 bodies so far, including women and children. We are suffering.

When approached about the event, the spokesman for the Plateau State Police Command, Alabo Alfred, did not return his calls. Still, security sources claimed that agents had been sent to the affected areas.

In a statement on Tuesday, Governor Simon Lalong voiced concern over the attacks.

The statement, signed by Macham Makut, the Governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, condemned the killings.

The disturbing news of a night attack on Kubat Village in Mangu Local Government Area, where some people, including women and children, were killed, woke Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.

Governor Lalong, deeply troubled by the tragic incident, immediately ordered security officers to hunt down and apprehend the perpetrators.

He declares that the government will stop at nothing to guarantee that those responsible for these killings are dealt with severely, calling it another attempt by crisis merchants and criminals to bring back the state’s terrible days of suffering and sorrow.

While denouncing the crime, the Governor expresses sympathy for the victims and guarantees those responsible for the killings will face justice. But, whatever their motivations, their actions cannot be accepted or justified.

While a thorough investigation is being conducted, the Governor has equally directed the State Emergency Management Agency and the Peace Building Agency to visit the area and ascertain the humanitarian need to aid the affected.
