The AfroBasket champion, has announced her resignation from the Nigeria Women’s basketball team, also known as D’Tigress. The 28-year-old cited a “lack of professionalism” from the Nigeria Basketball Federation as the reason for her action.
In a tweet posted on Monday, July 11, 2023, Chidom wrote, “It saddens me to announce that I will no longer play for the Nigerian National Team.” In a video attached to her tweet, Chidom said, “Of course, I will love to continue to play for something that is bigger than myself and represent the country that means so much to me and my family. But the current [Nigeria Basketball] Federation, I just cannot continue to agree with the way they do business.”
This news comes after the already-qualified Nigeria women’s basketball team, D’Tigress were ejected from the 2022 FIBA Women’s World Cup after the Federal Government slammed a two-year ban on all national basketball teams from participating in international competitions over leadership crisis in the Nigeria Basketball Federation.
Chidom’s resignation is a significant loss for the Nigerian Women’s basketball team and raises concerns about the state of affairs within the Nigeria Basketball Federation.
