Joao Cancelo has joined Barcelona on loan from Manchester City on a deal that will see the player in the Blaugrana shirt until June 30, 2024.
The Portuguese has been looking to leave the club since Man City’s coach, Pep Guardiola, has continued to keep the world-class defender on the bench all season long.
Cancelo was loaned out to Bayern Munich last season because he lacked playing time at City. He made 21 appearances for the German side, scoring just once and assisting six goals. The defender also won the Bundesliga title with the club.
The 29-year-old, who comes from the village of Barreiro, which is located just across the river from Lisbon, began his career with Benfica, where he won the league title, the domestic cup, the league cup, as well as the Super Cup.
Cancelo boasts so much experience as he has moved across Europe, playing for top teams like Benfica, Valencia, Inter Milan, and Juventus. He had moved from Juventus to Manchester City for a fee of over €60 million.
He will be a good addition to Xavi’s side, bringing all the experiences he has garnered over the years.
