Josko Gvardiol, a defender for RB Leipzig, will have a medical at Manchester City soon after the two clubs reached a €90m (£77.5m) agreement.
The Bundesliga team reportedly wanted €100m(£86m) for the Croatian international, but City were able to complete the trade at a price that worked for them.
According to the PA news agency, the 21-year-old is scheduled to get a physical by the end of the week in Manchester.
Gvardiol scored last season against City.
Gvardiol, who assisted Croatia in reaching the 2022 World Cup semifinals and the Nations League final, where they lost to Spain, would provide competition on the left side of City’s defence.
Mateo Kovacic, a midfielder who joined from Chelsea in June, is currently City’s only summer acquisition.
Ilkay Gundogan, the team’s captain, left for Barcelona on a free transfer, and Riyad Mahrez just last week finalised a £30m move to Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia.
