Lamine Yamal Makes History in Spain’s 7-1 Hammering of Georgia

Lamine Yamal has made history in Spanish football by playing for the national team at a young age. He becomes the youngest player to make an appearance for Spain while also scoring his first goal in an eight-goal thriller.

At 16 years and 57 days, the Barcelona youngster became Spain’s youngest-ever international when he entered the game against Georgia in the first half of the Euro 2024 qualifier.

It surpassed the previous mark held by current teammate Gavi, who made his Spanish debut against Italy in September 2021 at the age of 17 years and 62 days.

The record-breaker didn’t stop there, though, as he scored Spain’s seventh goal in the 7-1 blowout to complete his perfect debut.

When Nico Williams’ cross dropped to Yamal at the back post, he was in a good position to shoot the ball into the bottom corner.

Before Yamal’s historic goal, Alvaro Morata, the team’s captain, had registered a hat-trick, with Dani Olmo and Nico Williams also finding the back of the net. Soloman Kvirkvelia’s own goal was also recorded on the score sheet.

Spain easily defeated Georgia, hammering the host team 7-1. The three-time European Champions, who are now second in Group A behind Scotland, will play against Cyprus on Tuesday.
