Liverpool Agrees British Record £111m With Brighton For Moises Caicedo

Liverpool and Brighton have agreed on a transfer fee for midfielder Moises Caicedo, which is a British record. Sky Sports says that the fee is worth £111 million. A sell-on option will also be part of the deal.

Brighton had set a price for Caicedo that was more than £100 million and said they didn’t think anyone would meet it.
But Liverpool has now done that, so the Ecuadorian player, who is 21 years old, is free to go get a test.

Last month, Liverpool lost midfielders Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to the Saudi Pro League. However, in June, Liverpool paid £35 million for Alexis MacAllister, who played for Brighton with Caicedo.

“I was told that a deal has been made with Brighton. What did change is that we are not a club with unlimited money, so things happened in the summer that we didn’t expect, like Henderson and Fabinho.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said on Friday, “To be honest, we didn’t think about that before the summer. When it happened, we tried it, but the club was really stretched there, to be honest.”

Klopp said he “didn’t know” if Caicedo was going to have a test on Merseyside.

The price Chelsea decided to pay for Caicedo is more than the £107 million they paid for Enzo Fernandez, an Argentine midfielder, earlier this year.

Chelsea made several offers for Caicedo, but Brighton turned them all down. Caicedo signed Brighton from Independiente del Valle in Ecuador for £4 million in February 2021, and the deal included a 20% sell-on clause.

He didn’t play his first game in the Premier League until April 2022.

In January of this year, he asked to be moved away from Brighton.

Then, Arsenal made several offers for Caicedo, which were all turned down. In March, the player signed a new deal with Brighton that will last until 2027.
