Lukaku Completes Loan Move to Roma

Romelu Lukaku has completed his loan move to AS Roma. The new Roma player has been revealed by the Serie A official website as having moved from Chelsea to AS Roma, despite an official announcement yet to be released by the club.

On Tuesday, the Belgium international passed his medical. He landed in Rome and was greeted by a large crowd at the local airport, with co-owner Dan Friedken piloting the jet that flew him in.

Lukaku completes his €5m deal on Wednesday and will also accept a wage reduction from €12m to €7.5m for the season.

After losing favour at Chelsea due to a contentious statement in which he claimed he was unhappy playing under previous head coach Thomas Tuchel, Lukaku spent last season on loan at Inter Milan.

The striker was eager to go back to Italy, and negotiations between Juventus and Chelsea earlier this summer were underway. Inter was also interested in bringing the Belgian international back to Italy but dropped out of the race when it was discovered that the player was negotiating with rival club Juventus.

The 30-year-old, who transferred from Inter to Chelsea for £97.5m in August 2021, had interest from Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal as well, but the centre-forward will reunite with manager Jose Mourinho.
