Olokose Ojo Olushola was killed in Ilorin a few days before his wedding in 2021, and Justice S. M. Akanbi of the Kwara State High Court in Ilorin has convicted one Mohammed Kazeem Beiwa to death for the crime.
His two other conspirators, Madu Jeremiah, and Mohammed Chatta, both received 10 years in prison and a N100,000 punishment from the court, but the fourth defendant, Jimoh Abdulateef, was released due to insufficient prosecution.
The four defendants were being prosecuted in court on eight counts, including criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, negligent homicide, illegal possession of guns, and unlawful removal of human organs.
According to the prosecution, Senior Ibrahim Sulyman, a former attorney general and commissioner of justice for Kwara State, attacked and kidnapped Olokose Ojo Olushola in his home a few days before his wedding in Ilorin. He was allegedly slain sometime in 2021.
The prosecution testified in court during the trial that the accused individuals demanded payment of a ransom from the victim’s family, knowing he was already dead after kidnapping, killing, and dismembering him.
At the trial for the case, the prosecution called nine witnesses and provided the court with a number of exhibits.
Justice Akanbi handed down his decision in the case on Monday and found three of the defendants guilty of all four offenses.
“The defendants caused the death of one Olokose Ojo Olushola sometime in March 2021, a few days before the deceased’s wedding ceremony,” he claimed.
“The defendants requested a ransom from the relatives of the deceased while knowing that Olushola Olokose had died, giving the impression that their victim was still alive and being kept captive by kidnappers.
The first defendant, Mohammed Kazeem Beiwa, who planned the terrible catastrophe and was also the deceased’s neighbor, received multiple sentences, including 10 years in prison and a N100,000 fine, as well as death by hanging.
