In a deal worth up to £12.9m, Manchester United and Fenerbahce have reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of Brazilian midfielder Fred.
The player will depart for Istanbul on Saturday to undergo a medical exam and discuss personal terms. An initial £8.6m plus £4.3m in add-ons will be given to United.
When he transferred to Old Trafford from Shakhtar Donetsk in June 2018, Fred cost United £52m, but the club thinks they got a decent deal for the 30-year-old midfielder, who just had one year remaining on his contract.
Along with Fenerbahce’s Turkish rivals Galatasaray and Besiktas, Fulham was also interested, but the Istanbul club was able to reach an agreement with United.
In his 213 games over the course of five seasons at Old Trafford, Fred scored 14 goals.
