Matt Turner will cost Nottingham Forest up to £10m, according to an agreement made with Arsenal.
The contract is estimated to cost an initial £7m plus $3m in add-ons. The American will now depart for Nottingham to finalise the transfer.
Turner made seven appearances in his first season after being acquired from the New England Revolution for about £5m. He also recorded five cleansheets. The American gained a lot of admirers for his shot-stopping skills and his efforts on the international scene, even if he was unable to unseat Aaron Ramsdale as Arsenal’s starting number one.
Turner’s departure will make it possible for Arsenal to sign Brentford’s David Raya. The Gunners and the Spanish goalie are currently in negotiations. Raya is thought to be valued at over £40m by Brentford, but there is optimism that a deal can be worked out for the 27-year-old with only 12 months left on his contract. This summer, Bayern Munich also expressed interest, but Raya is set on moving to the Emirates.
Raya, who collaborated with goalkeeping coach Inaki Cana at Brentford, has long been admired by Arsenal, which made many attempts to sign him before bringing in Aaron Ramsdale in 2021. The Spaniard is now expected to enter and challenge Aaron Ramsdale for the top slot.
