Mohbad’s Death Exposes Police Negligence, Bullying in the Nigerian Entertainment Industry

The tragic death of Mohbad, a rising star in the Nigerian music industry, has sparked outrage and grief among his fans and fellow artists. Mohbad who died on the 12th September, 2023, from a mysterious ear infection. The cause of death still sketchy as a young healthy man dies suddenly, but many suspect that they are linked to the attack he had some months ago by some boys who claimed they work for Oba Elegushi.

It has been revealed that Mohbad had filed a petition to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex, Alagbon Close, Ikoyi, Lagos, over two months ago, alleging that he was assaulted and threatened by some men who claimed to work for Oba Elegushi. The petition, dated 27th June, 2023, detailed how Mohbad was attacked by about fifteen men led by one Samlarry Elegushi on 25th June, 2023, while he was having a video shoot with another artist, Zlatan Ibile. The assailants disrupted the shooting process, damaged the equipment worth five million naira, and injured Mohbad. They also boasted that they were acting on the orders of Oba Elegushi and that they would kill him if they saw him again.

Mohbad attached pictures of the injuries and the damaged equipment to the petition and appealed to the police to save his life and bring the culprits to justice. He also stated that he paid eight million naira for the shooting, which was non-refundable, and that he had suffered a huge loss as a result of the attack.

However, the police did not take any action on Mohbad’s petition or arrest any suspects in connection with the case. The petition was ignored and buried under piles of paperwork. Mohbad’s life was left at the mercy of his enemies, who eventually fulfilled their threat and silenced him forever.

Mohbad’s death has exposed the negligence and incompetence of the police and their failed duty to carry out their one job. Many Nigerians have condemned the police for failing to protect Mohbad and demanded that they investigate his murder by carrying out an autopsy, but the quick burial ceremony makes it more suspicious.
