Atlanta Mother Arrested for Shooting and Wounding 17-Year-Old Son during Video Game Console Argument

An incident in Atlanta has led to the arrest of Jaquana Butler, a 34-year-old mother, after she allegedly shot and wounded her 17-year-old son during a heated argument over a video game console. The incident took place on Thursday evening at their residence in the southwest part of the city.

Allegedly, Butler retrieved a firearm and proceeded to shoot her son multiple times. The incident occurred around 10:20 pm.

Following the shooting, emergency services transported the injured teenager to Grady Memorial Hospital. As of now, the current condition of the young victim remains unknown.


Law enforcement officials took immediate action, apprehending Butler at the scene. She now faces several charges, including aggravated assault, reckless conduct, and cruelty to children. Butler’s extensive criminal history dating back to 2010 has made her a familiar name among the local authorities.

Previous charges brought against Butler include reckless conduct, child abandonment, forgery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery, armed robbery, false report of a crime, and weapon possession. Notably, in 2012, she was charged with child abuse. Furthermore, court records indicate that in 2019, the mother was found guilty as a first-time offender for four counts of second-degree child cruelty, child cruelty by causing excessive physical or mental pain, and battery family violence in connection to a 2016 incident. She received a probationary sentence of six years.

Adding to her legal woes, Butler faced a recent charge of simple battery in April of this year.
