In the Dutch Super Cup on Friday, new signing Noa Lang scored the game-winning goal for PSV Eindhoven against Eredivisie champions Feyenoord.
PSV, which has defeated Ajax Amsterdam the past two years in the game that officially kicks off the new season in the Netherlands, won the Johan Cruyff Shield for the third time in a row.
After 79 minutes, Lang, a Dutch international who had been acquired from Club Brugge in Belgium, scored the game’s lone goal to give new manager Peter Bosz a victory.
Next Sunday, Feyenoord will host Fortuna Sittard to begin the defence of their league championship. Feyenoord is a group stage participant in the Champions League this season. Next Saturday, against Utrecht at home, is PSV’s inaugural league match.
PSV finished second in the league and won the Dutch Cup the previous year. They will participate in the Champions League as well; however, they will begin in the first round of knockout competition.
