Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali has completed a move to Newcastle United from AC Milan. The 23-year-old has signed a five-year contract with the club, becoming Eddie Howe’s first signing ahead of their Champions League campaign.
The reported transfer fee of £55 million makes Tonali the most expensive Italian footballer ever. Tonali played a crucial role in Milan’s Serie A triumph in the 2021–2022 season and also helped the team reach the semi-finals of the Champions League. He has represented Italy at the Under-21 European Championships.
Tonali expressed his excitement about playing at St. James’ Park and looks forward to the support of the fans. Eddie Howe praised Tonali’s exceptional talent and believes he will be a valuable addition to the squad.
Tonali began his career at Brescia and made his professional debut at the age of 17.
He joined AC Milan on loan in 2020 and later made the move permanent, contributing to their title-winning campaign in 2022.
