The National Working Committee (NWC) of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has dismissed the claim that its presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has been expelled from the party. The acting National chairman of NNPP, Mallam Abba Kawu Ali, said that the claim was rubbish and baseless.
Ali made this statement in a press conference on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, in Abuja. He said that the suspended persons, who claimed to have expelled Kwankwaso, were empty barons and had no constitutional powers to do so. He also said that the Board of Trustees (BoT) of NNPP had no authority to suspend or expel any member of the party without due process.
He explained that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of NNPP had overturned the suspension of Kwankwaso by the BoT in August 2023, and that the NEC was the highest decision-making organ of the party. He said that Kwankwaso had not violated any provision of the party’s constitution or engaged in any anti-party activity.
He also debunked the rumor that Kwankwaso had met with Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), on possible support ahead of the February 25 presidential election. He said that Kwankwaso was in the race to win and uplift the standard of living of all Nigerians.
He urged all NNPP members and supporters to remain calm and focused, and to disregard any false information aimed at causing confusion and division within the party. He said that NNPP was a united and progressive party that was committed to delivering good governance and development to Nigerians.
