Victor Osimhen has bagged the Ballon d’Or nomination for 2023 as he features alongside Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe, and 7-time winner Lionel Messi on the list for the prestigious award.
Osimhen led Napoli’s charge last season as they won their first Serie A title since 1990, scoring 26 goals and contributing four assists.
The Super Eagles striker became the first African player in the 125-year history of the Italian top flight to win the Serie A Golden Boot, achieving something even the great George Weah was unable to.
The 24-year-old is one of the three Africans on the 30-man list that also features Mohamed Salah of Egypt and Morocco’s Yassine Bounou.
The Ballon d’Or nominees list is 30-man strong and headlined by World Cup winner Lionel Messi, whose performances for Argentina in Qatar may give him an edge. The event will be held in Paris on October 30.
