Pensioners Rally for Enhanced Government Support and Welfare

The Secretary of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners Contributory Pension Scheme (NUPCPS), Comrade Bisan Olufemi John, has called on the federal government to improve the welfare conditions for pensioners and workers. This request was made at the 8th Annual National Conference of the Nigerian Association of Insurance and Pension Editors, NAIPE.

Comrade John asserted that there was no way the government can successfully tackle the economy without adequately satisfying the yearnings of both pensioners and those currently in service. He further called on the government to provide better opportunities for pensioners to be happy, stating that retirees’ welfare should not just end at the level of being paid their stipends.

On her part, the Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Lagos Chapter, Comrade Funmi Sessi, lamented that Nigerian pensioners were still far from having the deserved rest. She added that there was a need for them to earn their benefits, rest and enjoy the fruit of their labour.

This call to action highlights the ongoing struggle for improved welfare for pensioners and the labor markets in Nigeria. It underscores the need for government intervention to ensure that those who have served the nation are not left in a state of neglect during their retirement years.
