A collaboration between Rema and Selena Gomez on ‘calm down’ remix has bagged a new award for the Afro-beats Singer. Rema had recently bagged three awards at The Headies and now with another at the Video Music Awards (VMA). The duo’s song won the best Afro-beats award which was presented by Tiffany Haddish.
In his speech after receiving the award, He thanked his fans and a special appreciation to Selena Gomez. Adding to his speech, he said “Thank you Rema for believing in me”. Rema’s “calm down” beat the likes of Asake, Fireboy, Davido, Wizkid, Arya Star, Musa keys and Libianca fonji to win the award.
Rema is now the first Afro-beats artist to grab a VMA’s plaque. Last night’s Best Afro-beats category kicked off last night as it is the first time it’s introduced to the award scheme. The remix of Rema’s “calm down” makes a fast claim of the newly introduced award.
According to Rema, “Africa in the house tonight……” and indeed his tribute to legendary Fela Kuti, 2face and many other big names of Afro-beats has earned him much more regard and respect in the Music industry. Rema continues his dominance with his musical lyricism and good sounds
