Samuel Umtiti has been signed by Lille as a new player. The world champion defender, 29, has put pen to paper on a deal that will last for two years.
Samuel and Pique make a very strong pair in Barcelona. One of the best records in French football comes from his time with the Blaugrana team. In 91 games, he won the Spanish League twice (in 2018 and 2019), the Spanish Cup three times (in 2017, 2018, and 2021), the Super Cup twice (in 2016 and 2018), and reached the Champions League semi-finals. He had a huge season while on loan to Lecce in Serie A last year, immensely aiding in the Italian team’s upkeep.

He also joined the France team, where he and Varane formed a complementing pair. So it makes sense that he was chosen to take part in the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The Frenchman scored the game-winning goal with a header at the first post on July 10, 2018, against Belgium in the semifinal that will go down in history (1-0). He won the World Championship with his country five days later after defeating Croatia 4-2. He is awarded the Legion of Honour in recognition of this victory, which will live on in the hearts and minds of supporters and French football. He has earned 31 total caps in the blue jersey, scoring four goals.
Samuel Umtiti will continue his career at LOSC with the French man looking to regain the relevance he once had in Europe and in Barcelona.
