According to L’Equipe, Kylian Mbappe, 24, will receive a call from Sylvain Ripoll, the manager of the French Olympic Football squad.
The opening ceremony for the 2024 Olympic Summer Games in Paris is scheduled to take place along the Seine, not at the Stade de France, one year from now. Mbappé, a Paris-born athlete, has consistently stated that it has always been his goal to compete in the Olympics held in his hometown. The French magazine is aware that Mbappé would be warmly welcomed by Ripoll and the French FA.
Anyone under the age of 23 may be chosen for the Olympic football tournament’s squad, but each country may also summon up to three players who are 23 or older on a call-up basis. Mbappé aspires to be like his PSG teammate Neymar in this sense. Then at 24, the Brazilian earned the Olympic gold medal with his Brazilian teammates at home during the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The contractual dispute between Mbappé and PSG, though, would make it more difficult for him to compete in the Olympics in Paris. In fact, it is unknown which team Mbappé will play for when his current deal with PSG expires on June 30, 2024, and it is also unknown whether that club will permit him to miss a significant portion of the preseason. Additionally, Mbappé’s summer of 2024 is expected to involve selection for Didier Deschamps’ team for the European Championships.
L’Équipe has learned that Mbappé will ask his club for guarantees before being allowed to participate in the Olympic competition the following year. Hugo Lloris of Tottenham and Raphael Varane of Manchester United are rumoured to join Mbappé as the two other overage players on France’s Olympic football team, according to the French daily.
