The National Judicial Council (NJC) has set up seven committees to investigate petitions written against judicial officers. The decision was reached during meetings held on Wednesday and Thursday, June 15 and 16, 2023.
Soji Oye, NJC’s director of information, said in a statement on Friday that the committees will be made up of serving and retired judges, as well as legal practitioners. He added that the committees will be tasked with investigating the allegations against the judicial officers and making recommendations to the NJC.
The NJC is a statutory body that is responsible for the appointment, discipline, and removal of judicial officers in Nigeria. It is made up of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, the President of the Court of Appeal, the Attorney-General of the Federation, and 12 other members, including two retired judges.
