Total Blackout in Nigeria as Electricity Grid Collapses

Darkness has once again taken over Nigeria following the Collapse of Nigeria’s National electricity grid system in the early hours of Thursday. This has affected the Electricity supply across Nigeria.

According to a report by The Guardian, the grid was understood to have plummeted to a meager 273 MW of electricity coming from 2/27 of the electricity generation.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has given no response or update yet on the National Grid collapse since it happened. A handful of Distribution Companies have confirmed the state of their feeders. DISCOs have also claimed their feeders are out.

Recall, the TCN celebrated 400 days of consecutive power grid stability on August 29, 2023. As of the Time of filing this Report, TCN has given no response or reasons as to why or what caused the collapse of the grid.

Parallel Facts understands that the power supply went off at 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 14, 2023.

The Eleven power distributing companies in Nigeria that supply electricity to their Consumers in their respective franchise areas of operation have also been affected by the Collapse.
