A shocking video has emerged showing a tourist crashing an SUV into a cafe in the Canary Islands, injuring eight people, including a 5-year-old girl and a baby in a stroller. The incident happened on the popular Spanish island of Fuerteventura, in Corralejo, at around 11:27 a.m. Thursday.
The driver was travelling between 50 and 60mph when it left Avenida Nuestra Señora del Carmen. Five of the victims were seriously injured, local officials told The Canary News, with the 4-month-old baby airlifted to a hospital on the neighboring island of Gran Canaria. All were still alive as of Friday morning.
The driver, a 55-year-old British tourist, was also brought to a local hospital. The driver tested negative for alcohol and drugs, said police — who are considering the possibility he may have suffered a heart attack or a blackout behind the wheel.
